Comparing folders and moving their contents from one place to another is always a tedious chore if you have to do it with two or more Finder windows. FreeFileSync is capable of comparing the contents of two folders in just a few seconds. The application provides you with a side-by-side view of the compared folders, which makes figuring out the differences between them seamless. What's more, it gives you the possibility of synchronizing your folders with nothing more than a single click.

The application's controls are well illustrated and neatly organized on a user friendly interface. All you need to do is browse for the folders you wish to compare and hit the large Compare button, in the upper left corner of the window, after which you may click the Synchronize button, in the upper right corner. As previously mentioned, the compared contents of two folders are displayed side by side, in separate lists. If a file is present in one folder but not the other, its corresponding entry will be blank.

You can set the application to copy specific files in one direction or the other, to delete them or to do nothing, by selecting different icons between the file lists. Alternatively, you can choose a synchronization profile on a tabbed settings menu. Depending on the selected profile, the application will synchronize everything in both directions, it will mirror the contents of the right folder in the left folder or update them. You can also select a comparison method in the same menu. FreeFileSync can compare your files by their size and modification dates or by their contents.

The application comes with other useful features as well. For example, you can set up filters, to include or exclude files with specific extensions, sizes or time spans. You can also customize your own synchronization profile, just by selecting a few icons. What's more, the application allows you to save all your settings, so if you need to perform the same operation in the future, you can just load your settings and start the process. Another useful feature is the possibility of saving the settings as a batch file. This gives you the possibility of running a synchronization process immediately, just by running an executable.

Pros

The application is capable of comparing any amount of contents from different folders. It supports various synchronization types, to make folders identical, to back up and update contents and more.

Cons

There are no serious issues to address. Instead of spending hours sorting and backing up your data, you can do it in just a minute with FreeFileSync.
